Theatre director, actor and dramaturge Peter Snickars has a brain tumor of an aggressive type. This film follows him and his family from the moment of discovery to the end.

A Norwegian nurse falls in love with a Finnish soldier in the Winter War of 1939/40 between Finland and the Soviet Union. After settling down WW2 erupts, and he is lost in Finland, as she falls in love with the German soldier Maximilian.

In the early 1900s, emigrant Hanna returns from Colorado to Finland. In America she was known as Dollar-Hanna, but in Finland she has to endure the Civil War and live through the prohibition. Hanna's independent spirit will guide her.
